YAK ATTACK - TAAL SUTRA EP

Rooted in the melodic foothills of Nepal, Yak Attack is a London based musical outfit built around a core of Afro-Asian rhythms..the band is founded and led by Shubha Giri, with a vision to create music from an unlikely, unique blend of cultural backgrounds, Shubha has managed to bring together a very versatile and talented bunch of musicians from across the globe on the 'Taal Sutra' EP, that effortlessly combines the aesthetics of funk, hip hop, jazz, dub, blues with folk and classical traditions from Nepal and the Himalayas.


1. TIBET

This track is not based on Tibetan sounds, but on the Tamang Selo, music of one of Nepal's indigenous groups. Naming this song evokes cultural and historical ties of many Himalayan groups like Tamangs to Tibet, expressing solidarity with Tibetans in Nepal oppressed by authorities under Chinese pressure.

2. HARIYO DADHA MATHI

Originally sung by the legendary Dharmaraj Thapa, this is a farmer's song from the hills of Nepal. This classic folk tune is layered with new beats featuring the vocals of the country's famous Raju Lama.
